The Israelites said to Gideon, “Rule over us–you, your son and your grandson–because you have saved us from the hand of Midian.” But Gideon told them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you.” (Judges 8:22-23, NIV)
You have to respect the heart of a man like Gideon who could have been made king, but realized that there was already one King who sat upon the throne that the Israelites needed to acknowledge with their hearts. It is easy to fall for the words and praise of those around us, but we would do wise to remember that there is already one King and His throne is not to be shared. Continue reading “Rule Over Us”
